Beyonce's Jewelry Fit for a Queen

When Beyonce sings, everyone listens. With her amazing vocal chords, youthful sense of style and impeccable attention to detail, it seems like everything the starlet touches turns to gold (or platinum). Beyonce's style has evolved over the years, from over-the-top sequin numbers with jewel colored necklaces and earrings to match, to sleek and sexy bodysuits, she continually impresses. But the thing that hasn't changed over the years is Beyonce's affluent love of chunky statement jewelry to pump up the glam factor of her outfits. Here's just a taste of Sasha Fierce's signature designer jewelry style:

Earrings: For maximum impact, Beyonce favors oversize chandelier earrings heavily adorned with gems, beads or diamonds. She wears these often, to compliment v-neck or halter necklines. Often, she'll add a matching statement cocktail ring to pull the look together. As Beyonce often gravitates to big hair and bold makeup, her earrings never seem to weigh her down. Instead, she wears them with confidence and a smile, to achieve a truly dazzling look.

Necklaces: Beyonce shines no matter what type of designer necklace she wears, but once in a while, she'll throw in a stunner that will really get everyone's attention. For example, the unique jade and diamond necklace and earring set that she wore to grace the pages of In Style were as bold and beautiful as ever. For beachwear, Beyonce opts for long pendant necklaces to compliment her cover up. One thing's for sure - no matter what type of jewelry Beyonce wears, she makes it her own.

Gold Jewelry

Gold is one of the metals taken from the earth and is probably the first metal known to man. Its first use has been traced back to 3600 B. C. and was probably originally obtained in Egypt, as the ancient methods of obtaining gold in Egypt are illustrated in early rock carvings. It is said in the book of Genesis that Abraham, in the twentieth century B. C., when he went out of Egypt, was very rich not only in cattle but in gold and silver both in dust and ingots. In Exodus xxv, 29, we read that Moses was commanded by the Lord to make spoons of gold for the Tabernacle. In the writings of Homer, Sophocles, Herodotus, Pliny and others, gold is frequently mentioned.

Gold is widely distributed in nature and is found in many ways and in all parts of the world. It is found in water, in the ice of Alaska, in the sand of South Africa, and in the quartz of Colorado, and is frequently found native, though usually alloyed with silver or iron. The purest specimens of native gold have yielded from 96 to 99 per cent, pure metal.

Pure gold, being too soft for all ordinary purposes, is generally alloyed with other metals. Silver and copper are the principal alloys used, although iron is used in small quantities for different purposes. Pure silver has a brilliant white color and is the whitest of all metals. No metal surpasses silver in its luster and hardness it ranges between pure gold and pure copper. It is more fusible than copper or gold, melting at a bright red heat or at 1873F. It is commonly used for the purpose of alloying gold in its pure state, but if too much is added it makes the gold pale. Pure copper is the only metal that has a reddish appearance. It is both malleable and ductile; hence it is very useful as an alloy for gold.

Jewelry Making Art

There are some jewelry hobbyists that exhibit their creative edge and brilliant talent when making their own jewelry designs. It is a very rewarding experience that is made quite simple through Internet jewelry websites. These fine jewelry retailers maintain an inventory of jeweler tools, castings and ring mounting devices to let a jewelry making enthusiast explore all possibilities at a reasonable price.

It's hard to believe that an unattractive chunk of carbon could be crafted into something so beautiful. People love to wear these chunks of coal around their necks as pendants, and around their fingers as engagement rings to show the world they are truly loved.

Some jewelers like to explore all of the possibilities and keep an abundant amount of amethyst, citrine, aquamarine and garnets and other semi-precious gems on hand to fulfill custom orders that will add wonder and magic to someone's day. And Juicy series is one of best jewelry that people like, such as Juicy bracelet, Juicy earrings, Juicy brooch and so forth.

The shaping of gemstones is offered in at least 15 varieties and each will prominently display the refined tastes of the particular jewelry fancier. There are heart shapes that are typically ordered by star crossed lovers who enjoy a continual reminder of how they feel for each other. The marquise, rectangle, square and round shapes fill a more traditional shape that is found in most jewelry fashions on the market today.

There are many ways to say Merry Christmas

After writing last week’s sort of “feeling sorry for myself” column, I thought maybe we should have a happier, heart-lifting one to help put us all in a happy, true Christmas mood. Right?

Because Christmas is such a happy time, I decided I would try and give you some ways you can say “Merry Christmas” without any shopping, spending money, rushing to get everything done, frustrations, etc., and just enjoying the special season now, and even all year. So I hope you like these ideas and can come up with lots more of your own.

For example: enjoy the fresh, clean smell of the Christmas trees; cuddle up with a child or someone special and tell a story as you recall an old, happy memory or memories; enjoy our feathered friends and keep their feeders full; visit a friend or shut-in; record a Merry Christmas message on your home answering machine; take time to “listen” to any snowfall, then go out and build a snowman with some children — yours or the neighbors — or, better yet, have a snowball fight; look at Christmas with the eyes of a child and remember long ago ones; go window shopping with someone special — it’s free and fun; and share your Christmas smiles and good wishes with everyone you meet and keep it going all year.

Wouldn’t life be so much more wonderful if we spread our Christmas feelings all year?

Before watering your plants with city water, let it sit overnight at room temperature to help get rid of any chlorine in the water. Use snow during the winter because it has much-needed nutrients and minerals which plants love.

Help your car doors open easier and with less chance of freezing shut by rubbing vegetable oil around the edges of both the door and car.

If you need some off-white thread to sew on a button or mend a small tear, dip regular white thread in some tea, and you will have your “antique white.”

Here are a couple hints you might like to try. If soap powder makes you sneeze, put one or two teaspoons of salt in the soap box.

Before you throw out any moldy cheese, cover it in a container with a few sugar lumps. Wait several minutes, and the mold will disappear like magic.

To easily remove that sticky glue residue left when you pull off an adhesive price tag, just rub the spot with some peanut butter and remove with a little paper toweling.

Californians flock to the 'Disneyland' of climate change

Hundreds of delegates from nonprofits, state and local government and businesses are making the rounds in Copenhagen, speaking on panels, schmoozing with fellow policy wonks and buying furry hats.

Jake Mackenzie, a city councilman from Rohnert Park, Calif., is looking forward to telling the world about Sonoma County's efforts to combat climate change -- and he even has an appointment with a Scottish official to talk about energy from waves.

So what if a few local critics have raised eyebrows about the $22,500 cost of sending a seven-person delegation from Sonoma County to Copenhagen?

"Our message is, 'Hey U.N., we deserve a place at the table,' " Mackenzie said.

No final treaty is likely to emerge from the frenzied negotiations between 190 nations at the two-week global climate conference. And the U.S. will be unable to commit to signing a treaty until Congress makes up its mind on climate legislation.

But none of that has put a damper on the enthusiasm of hundreds -- if not thousands -- of Californians, including Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa as well as academic superstars, green-tech gurus, environmentalists and college students.

Along with 40,000 climate policy junkies from around the world, they have flocked to Copenhagen to schmooze, show off, pontificate on policy panels and, in some cases, even lobby for a better climate treaty.

As the world's seventh-largest economy, California attracts attention. But what Golden Staters are boasting about here is the state's first-in-the-nation economy-wide climate legislation, its first-in-the-world low carbon fuel standard, and its highest-in-the nation renewable energy requirements.

"Why do we put so many hopes and eggs into the big international agreement basket?" Schwarzenegger asked some 600 journalists and delegates in a speech Tuesday at the conference's Bella Center headquarters. "According to the U.N. itself, up to 80% of greenhouse gas mitigation will be done at the subnational level."

To drive home the point, he announced a new "coalition to fast-track the results of the Copenhagen Climate Conference," joining with regional officials from 20 nations including Algeria, Canada, France and Nigeria.

None of the Californians are involved in the actual negotiations, which are led by diplomats behind closed doors. "Interacting with a delegate is about as likely as a comet colliding with a planet," said Margaret Bruce, director of the California-based Center for Climate Action, a nonprofit group.

But that's not the idea. At hundreds of side panels, conferences, receptions and exhibits, everyone who is anyone in the world of carbon control gets a chance to rub shoulders with other players.

"This is Disneyland for policy wonks," said Gary Gero, president of the Los Angeles-based Climate Action Reserve, a nonprofit that designs protocols for greenhouse gas offsets.

But "climate-land" isn't all amusement. On a snowy Monday, a breakdown in credentialing left more than 1,000 delegates from nonprofit groups shivering in line for nine hours, only to be turned away as logistics broke down.

Tuesday was hardly better, with lines extending seven hours.

Mike Chrisman, California's secretary for natural resources and one of three Schwarzenegger cabinet officials in town, arrived at the center promptly at 9 a.m. Monday, but soon left, discouraged by the long lines. Schwarzenegger cabinet members were able to enter the center at least for a few hours on Tuesday, as part of his retinue.

Nonetheless, the California cabinet heads spent a busy few days meeting with U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and other federal officials, serving on panels regarding sea level rise, climate adaptation, subnational cooperation and, in the case of state Agriculture Secretary A.G. Kawamura, blogging about the experience.

Linda Adams, secretary for the environment, found time to sign an agreement with the Danish environment minister to collaborate on green chemistry.

California businesses were also out in force, from Patagonia to Hewlett Packard to Pacific Gas & Electric. Solazyme, a San Francisco firm, squired around 200 delegates from Mexico, South Africa, Nigeria and India in a fleet of cars fueled with algae-derived biodiesel.

"We need clear market signals from governments on the future cost of carbon," said Solazyme President Harrison Dillon, who favors a strong climate treaty.

Villaraigosa arrived Monday night with a seven-man entourage, including Department of Water and Power Commissioner Thomas Sayles and Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Geraldine Katz. The $120,000 trip, which includes stops for some officials in London and Berlin to promote trade, will be paid for by the port and the DWP, said Villaraigosa spokeswoman Sarah Hamilton.

The mayor's schedule included a reception for mayors with Crown Prince Frederik, a spot on a panel on public-private partnerships with the flamboyant entrepreneur and Virgin Group founder Richard Branson, and a private get-together with officials from Maersk Shipping Line, a major player in California's port politics.

Among those stranded without credentials Monday was Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner (D- Berkeley), who blogged about her experience. "It's not looking good for those of us without badges to get in," she wrote, adding, "I'm a bit sad" to miss events at the center with fellow politicians.

But later she was off to dinner at the U.S. Embassy with U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu, Schwarzenegger and other officials, wearing a Danish-made furry hat. "I look like a wookie but my head and ears are warm," she wrote.

Accenture ending sponsorship deal with Accenture ending sponsorship deal with Tiger Woods

A major sponsor for Tiger Woods announced Sunday that it is dropping the golf star in light of recent controversy swirling around his personal life.

Accenture, a management consulting firm, said on its Web site that "given the circumstances of the last two weeks ... the company has determined that he is no longer the right representative for its advertising."

The move ends a sponsorship arrangement that lasted six years.

Another major sponsor, Gillette, said Saturday it was "limiting" Woods' role in its marketing programs to give him the privacy to work on family relationships.

Woods announced on his own Web site Friday that he is taking an "indefinite break" from professional golf.

The 33-year-old golfer, who tops the sport's world rankings, has been mired in controversy since he crashed his car outside his Florida mansion late last month. In the week following the crash, Woods apologized for "transgressions" that let his family down, and US Weekly magazine published a report alleging that Woods had an affair with a 24-year-old cocktail waitress named Jaimee Grubbs.

Rich Harden Appears to Have Signed with Texas

Take everything I said below about John Lackey and reverse it and you will come close to assembling the Rich Harden package. As mentioned, Harden made the exact same amount of starts (51) the past two seasons as Lackey did. Harden did throw noticeably fewer innings in that span, 290 to Lackey's 340, mainly as a result of a difference in approach. Lackey averaged 3.64 pitches per plate appearance the last two seasons, Harden was at 4.11. Strikeouts generally take more pitches to complete so it should come as little surprise to see the difference there. The important thing is note is that Lackey threw a total of 228 more pitches than Harden over 2008-9, the equivalent of one extra start per season.

Unlike Lackey, Harden's swinging strike rate is less trendy, partially due to the lack of data points in 2006-7. However, Harden had established a 11% rate in 2003-5 and was at 15% both of the prior two seasons. He would probably demolish Texas' hitters. Harden is also going to walk a good number of fellows. Interestingly enough, Harden's tendency to throw strikes is no worse than Lackey's, both hitting the zone about half the time. Harden is much more often to throw that first pitch for a ball though, but again, that's part of the deal with high strikeout pitchers.

Harden is also more of a fly ball pitcher than Lackey. Again, Harden is about the strikeouts so pitching up in the zone is part of that most of the time. All of this combines to give us the overall picture of Harden to Lackey, way more strikeouts, a few more walks and a few more fly balls. While Lackey's tRA* floated around 4.4, Harden's is around 4.1 though that came in a less offensive league. The difference between the two in terms of those figures is negligible. CHONE is slightly more bearish, also projecting Harden to be equal to Lackey in performance level, but Lackey's clear inferior in durability.

Even accounting for Harden's higher catastrophic injury risk, he grades out as being worth $12 million or so per year. To compare them directly, Harden's fair value over a four year deal would likely be around 4/44 compared to Lackey's 4/52. That Harden's health knocked that 4/44 down to 1/7.5 with an $11.5 million option is what made him a great target. An opportunity potentially (we don't know what went on, there may have been nothing reasonable Jack Z could have done) missed here and that the Rangers signed him makes it all the more painful.

Fine Pearl Jewelry

When women choose fine pearl jewelry to buy, they look for exquisiteness, beauty, elegance and more importantly, their quality and price. When compared to jewelry made from gold, silver, platinum and diamond, pearl jewelry offers an equally fabulous appeal and truly turns out to be worthy investments.

Usually, pearl jewelry of fine quality are family heirlooms, which are handed down from one generation to another. The natural iridescence of pearl jewelry along with the gracious appearance a woman gets when wearing them as a necklace can truly enhance the beauty and style of a woman.

Each pearl that makes up a pearl necklace has to be hand-knotted and stringed together carefully and properly. There are a lot of types of pearls like akoya pearls, freshwater pearls, South sea pearls or Tahitian pearls. These are all cultured pearls and they all have different prices based on their size, quality and color. And so, you would need to choose the most suitable pearl size, color, shape and quality for you. Vivienne Westwood Ring among them is much more attractive.

Pearl is commonly used to embellish fine pearl jewelry, which are created using different kinds of metals, gems and stones. A lot of designers create their own pieces of art with pearls to design pearl jewelry and oftentimes, they are successful in capturing the beauty and elegance of pieces, which has fine pearl appeal. Fine pearl jewelry is one of the best gifts you could give to yourself or to our loved ones. Just remember that if you do buy or receive some pearl jewelry, you would have to give them extra special care.

Walmart Wii

Starting this Saturday (Dec. 5th), at 8 AM, Walmart will be offering a $50 gift card with every Wii purchase, bringing the effective price of the console down to just $149.99 -- and that's easily the best deal on a Wii we've ever seen.

The deal will last until December 12, or while supplies last. Good luck with that "while supplies last" thing: we'd guess that to be certain of a Wii deal you'll want to be there first thing on Saturday morning.

Looking for a Wii game to spend that $50 on? Sure you are. Although it comes with Wii Sports, most owners will want a little more variety. (replica Chanel jewelry )Fortunately, we've got you covered: check out the Wii section of our 2009 Holiday Gift Guide for recommendations that'll suit every taste.

Fans of other consoles (or those shopping for them) aren't left out in the cold, either. Walmart's also trimming between $10 and $20 from many of the year's top games -- including Dragon Age: Origins, Madden 10, Halo 3: ODST, and Uncharted 2.
